House Fire Claims Life in Lamjung District

Lamjung District, Nepal – In a devastating incident, a residential house in Syage, Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-4, Lamjung district, caught fire last night, resulting in the tragic loss of a life. Santamaya Shrestha, a 44-year-old woman, succumbed to the flames that engulfed the house, as confirmed by local authorities.

Rajendra Shrestha, the victim’s husband and aged 45, narrowly escaped the inferno by fleeing from the house, according to Police Inspector Thaneshwor Chapain from the District Police Office. Despite the swift response from locals and the police to control the blaze, the fire proved to be uncontrollable, leading to the destruction of the residence.

The Shrestha couple, originally hailing from Besisahar Municipality-2, had been operating a retail shop and cloth store at the location for the past 11 years. The fire not only claimed Santamaya Shrestha’s life but also resulted in the loss of goods and articles inside the house. The police are currently assessing the extent of the damage caused by the tragic incident.

Inspector Chapain expressed the community’s efforts to contain the fire, stating that despite their best attempts, the flames devoured the house, leaving it in ruins. The couple’s children, who reside in Kathmandu, were fortunately not present during the incident.
