Tanahu, Nepal – The tragic bus accident in Tanahu district has raised questions about the circumstances that led to the incident. On Friday morning, an Indian-registered bus carrying tourists from Pokhara to Kathmandu fell into the Marsyangdi River near Aina Pahara.
According to local authorities, the bus plummeted approximately 100 meters from the road, landing on the riverbank. Despite the significant drop, the bus managed to avoid submerging in the river, but it sustained substantial physical damage.
Rescue operations are underway, with teams from the Janpath Police, Armed Police, Army, and local communities working together to assist the victims. So far, 30 of the 41 Indian tourists on board have been rescued, with over half of them suffering serious injuries.
Initial investigations suggest that the accident may have been caused by excessive speed. The bus appears to have veered off the road after cutting a curve, breaking through a crash barrier before plunging towards the river.
While the focus remains on rescuing the injured and providing medical care, authorities will also be investigating the exact cause of the accident and the extent of the damage to the bus.
