Duhabi, Sunsari: A massive fire engulfed the Hanumante carpet factory in Duhabi Municipality-3 on Wednesday evening, causing significant damage estimated to exceed Rs. 80 crore. The factory, owned by Dharan-based businessman Prince Aggarwal, was severely impacted by the blaze that broke out around 8:30 PM.
According to local authorities, the fire was sparked by an electrical short circuit and quickly spread throughout the factory due to the presence of highly flammable materials. Despite the efforts of firefighters from multiple districts, the blaze remained uncontrolled for several hours.
The damage caused by the fire is extensive, including the destruction of the factory building, machinery, and valuable inventory such as carpets, silk, cushions, mattresses, and vehicles. The exact extent of the losses is still being assessed, but initial estimates suggest a substantial financial impact.
Emergency responders from Biratnagar, Itahari, Dharan, Duhabi, Inaruwa, Jhumka, and other nearby areas were deployed to contain the fire. Their efforts were hampered by the intense heat and the rapid spread of the flames.
