Kaski: Human remains, including bones and personal belongings, have been discovered at the Mardi Himal base camp in Kaski district. The grim find was made by local shepherds who were grazing their livestock in the area.

According to Ward President Hari Bahadur Chhetri, the shepherds found a human bone, a trouser, and an iPhone at Lamdanda in Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality. They immediately reported the incident with photographs and videos.

Due to the challenging terrain and high altitude, reaching the site is difficult. Authorities are considering using a helicopter to access the area.

The discovered items bear similarities to those belonging to Swedish citizen Michael Liu Blomberg, who went missing during a solo trek to the Mardi Himal base camp in December 2023. His passport was found at a local hotel.

Police are investigating the matter and hope to identify the remains through further examination, including analysis of the recovered iPhone.

The remote location of the base camp, covered in snow during winter and accessible only by footpaths during summer, has hampered search efforts in the past.
