Husband Kills Wife in Nijgadh Bara

Nijgadh, Bara: A man killed his wife and injured their two daughters in a domestic dispute in Nijgadh Municipality, Bara, on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred in Bhamara Tol of Ward 9. The victim, 38-year-old Laxmi Rai, was sitting to defecate when her husband, 42-year-old Bimal Basnet, attacked her with a khurpa (a type of agricultural tool), striking her in the neck. She died instantly.

Basnet’s two daughters, 17-year-old Ganga Rai and Jamuna Rai were also injured while trying to protect their mother. They sustained injuries to their hands and were taken to Mediciti Vayodha Hospital in Birgunj for treatment.

The accused, Bimal Basnet, has been arrested by the Nijgadh Area Police Office. Preliminary investigations indicate that the attack was fueled by alcohol consumption and a domestic quarrel.

The body of the deceased will be sent to Kalaiya Provincial Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Further investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Laxmi Rai was a mother of two daughters and had married Bimal Basnet six or seven years ago. Her two daughters were from a previous marriage.
