Greg Barclay, the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), arrived in Kathmandu on Monday evening, commencing a pivotal four-day sojourn. Fresh from his attendance at the Women’s Premier League final in Delhi, Barclay landed at Tribhuvan International Airport, marking the initiation of his official duties.
Upon touchdown, Barclay received a warm reception from Paras Khadha, Secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal, and Treasurer Padam Khadka. Their greeting set the tone for Barclay’s engagements during his stay.
The agenda for Barclay’s visit includes crucial meetings with key figures such as Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Finance Minister Barsa Man Pun, Sports Minister Bhiraj Bhakta Shrestha, as well as officials from the National Sports Council and Cricket Association of Nepal. These discussions aim to bolster cricket development initiatives in Nepal and strengthen ties with the ICC.
In addition to meetings, Barclay will undertake inspections of cricket facilities at the Tribhuvan International Cricket Ground and Mulpani International Cricket Stadium. These assessments underscore the ICC’s commitment to enhancing cricket infrastructure in Nepal.
To provide Barkley with a taste of Nepal’s rich culture and natural beauty, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has organized a scenic mountain flight over the Kathmandu Valley. Furthermore, sightseeing excursions to iconic landmarks like Swayambhunath, Patan Durbar Square, and Boudhanath Stupa are scheduled to enhance Barkley’s cultural immersion.
Despite his packed schedule, Barclay’s visit will be brief, as he is slated to return to Delhi on Thursday morning. Following his time in Nepal, he will attend the inaugural ceremony of the Indian Premier League (IPL) before heading back to his home country.
