Bhaktapur, Nepal – A tragic road accident in Gatthaghar, Bhaktapur on Thursday has taken a bizarre turn with the revelation of a mistaken identity.
Initial reports indicated that a 23-year-old woman named Sushma Nepali from Dolakha had been killed when her scooter was struck by a truck. However, subsequent investigations have revealed that this information was incorrect. The actual identity of the deceased remains unknown.
The accident occurred at around 1:40 PM when a truck collided with a scooter at Gatthaghar. The scooter rider was fatally injured. The truck driver fled the scene following the incident.
The confusion arose when a person claiming to be the victim’s sibling arrived at the scene and identified the body based on clothing and footwear. However, the real Sushma Nepali later came forward to clarify the situation.
The incident sparked widespread protests from locals who blocked the road, vandalized the truck, and clashed with police. Security forces had to resort to firing tear gas to disperse the angry crowd. A large contingent of police personnel was deployed to control the situation.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing, and police are actively searching for the truck driver.
The deceased’s body has been sent to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for post-mortem examination, and authorities are working to establish their identity.
