In a heartbreaking incident in Mahalaxmi Municipality-3, Imadol, Lalitpur, a preliminary investigation by the police suggests a possible case of ‘suicide after murder‘ involving a woman and her two children.
Rabina Maharjan, a resident of Ochu Height, Imadol, is believed to have taken her own life after allegedly killing her two-year-old daughter, Riwa Maharjan, and six-year-old son, Ashwet Maharjan. The incident unfolded around 4:30 PM on Saturday when Rabina was seen jumping from the third floor of her house. Alert locals immediately rescued her and rushed her to Kist Hospital.
Tragically, despite efforts to save them, Rabina and her two children succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital, as confirmed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shekhar Khanal, the chief of Lalitpur police.
The motive behind the shocking act remains unclear, and authorities are working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. “The exact cause of death will be determined following post-mortem examinations, and further details will emerge after statements are obtained from other family members,” stated SSP Khanal. No suicide note or other indicators were discovered at the residence.
The deceased woman lived with her husband, mother-in-law, and two children. Her husband, reportedly a ‘sound system’ manager for public events, was not present at the time of the incident. “At present, we are unable to obtain a statement from the deceased person’s husband, although we have started investigations,” added SSP Khanal.
The incident occurred while Rabina’s husband was attending a program organized by Mahalaxmi Municipality on Saturday. The police are actively working on the case to gather more information and shed light on this tragic event.
