Trishuli, Nepal – An Indian rescue team arrived in Nepal on Saturday to assist in the ongoing search for two missing buses and their passengers swept away by a landslide on July 12. The disaster occurred on the Narayangadh-Muglin road near Simaltal, with the debris and victims carried away by the Trishuli River.
So far, 23 bodies of the 65 passengers aboard the two buses have been recovered, primarily in the vicinity of the Gandak barrage, approximately 103 kilometers downstream. While three passengers managed to escape the raging waters, the fate of the remaining 39 individuals remains unknown.
Nepal’s Home Ministry requested India’s assistance in the search and rescue operation due to the vastness of the area and the challenges posed by the river’s strong current. A 12-member Indian team is expected to join the Nepali rescue efforts in locating the missing buses and bodies.
The recovery process has been arduous, with bodies found across multiple districts, including Chitwan, Nawalparasi West, and Nawalparasi East. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of additional victims being found as the search continues.
