Indian Bus Accident Claims Nepalese Pilgrim’s Life

Samastipur, India: A Nepalese pilgrim has succumbed to injuries sustained in a bus accident that occurred in Samastipur, India, six days ago. 62-year-old Kishoriram Mahara Chamar from Baragadhi Rural Municipality-3 Murkipalia village died while undergoing treatment in Patna.

The accident happened when a bus carrying pilgrims from Murkipalia village overturned after being hit by a truck at Musarigharari Chowk in Samastipur, Bihar. A total of 47 passengers, including the bus driver and co-driver, were injured in the incident.

Kishoriram Mahara Chamar was initially treated at a local hospital in Samastipur but was later referred to AIIMS Hospital in Patna for further care due to the severity of his injuries. Unfortunately, despite medical intervention, he did not survive.

His wife Rampati and granddaughter Sujitha were also injured in the accident but have since recovered after receiving treatment. According to a local former teacher, Mahendra Shah Kanu, they were returning to Nepal with the deceased’s body.

The injured passengers have criticized the quality of medical care they received in India, claiming negligence and lack of support from the Nepalese government. Bishwanath Mukhiya, another injured passenger, stated that he had to admit his granddaughter to Kathmandu Teaching Hospital after her hand was amputated in Bharatpur Medical Hospital.

The bus involved in the accident, bearing registration number Na 7 Kha 6446, was reserved from Pipra Basatpur village and was on its way to Babadham (Devghar) in Jharkhand. Indian police have arrested the truck driver and are currently investigating the incident.
