In a late-night protest, the youth of Janakpurdham took to the streets, condemning the arrest of Kailash Sirohiya, president of Kantipur Media Group, as an affront to democracy.
The demonstrators gathered at Mahaveer Chowk, burning tires and voicing their opposition to Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane. They argued that the attempt to suppress Kantipur Media, a key player in the 2005-2006 people’s movement, is a serious threat to democratic principles. The protesters called for the immediate resignation of Home Minister Lamichhane.
Additionally, various local organizations, including the Janakpurdham Udyog Banijya Sangh, are reportedly planning further demonstrations.
Sirohiya was arrested by the police on Tuesday over a citizenship issue and was transported to Janakpur later that night.
