Jhapa Road Accidents Claim Two Lives, Injure Eight

Jhapa, Nepal: Two separate road accidents on Saturday ripped through Shivasatakshi Municipality and Kamal Rural Municipality in Jhapa, leaving two individuals dead and at least eight others injured.

Deadly Collision in Shivasatakshi:

In the first incident, tragedy struck near Shivasatakshi-10 as a car (Ba 14 Cha 6603) traveling west to east collided head-on with a motorbike (Me 10 Pa 7212) coming from the opposite direction. The motorbike rider, 23-year-old Anup Dhakal of Damak-9, died of his injuries while receiving treatment at Birta City Hospital Birtamod. His pillion rider, Pradeep Basnet, 21, of Urlabari-1, Morang, also sustained injuries.

The collision also impacted the car’s occupants, injuring the driver, Anil Kumar Shah, 50, of Birtamod-3, and three other passengers: Jaya Prakash Shah, 53, of Birtamod-4, Ranjan Shah, 44, and Lalit Shah, 53, all from Birtamod-3.

Double Whammy in Kamal:

The day wasn’t over for Jhapa, as another accident near Kamal Rural Municipality brought further sorrow. A motorbike (Me 6 Pa 3152) traveling east collided with another motorbike (Province 1-01-016 Pa 8992) heading in the same direction. The impact caused the first motorbike to swerve and strike a scooter (Province 1-01-016 Pa 7140) approaching from the opposite lane.

While both riders and the scooter driver on the second motorbike escaped harm, Chandra Prasad Bhattarai, 52, and Raghunath Bhattarai, 70, of Kankai-5, riding the first motorbike, sustained injuries. Sadly, Raghunath succumbed to his critical injuries while being transported to the hospital.

Authorities Urge Caution:

These devastating accidents have shaken the Jhapa community, highlighting the urgent need for road safety measures. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Khagendra Prasad Rijal of Jhapa Police urged drivers and riders to follow traffic rules and exercise caution to prevent such tragedies.

“This is a stark reminder of the fragility of life,” DSP Rijal stated. “We must all prioritize safety on the roads to avoid preventable accidents and protect ourselves and others.”

As investigations into both incidents continue, the communities mourn the loss of loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. This double tragedy serves as a powerful call for everyone in Jhapa and beyond to make road safety a top priority.
