Jokh Bahadur Mahara to Become Chief Minister of Lumbini Province

In a significant political development, Jokh Bahadur Mahara, the leader of the CPN-Maoist Center parliamentary party in Lumbini Province, is poised to take the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Lumbini Province today. This appointment comes after Province Chief Amik Sherchan designated Mahara as Chief Minister by Article 168(2) of the Constitution on April 5.

Mahara’s ascension to the role of Chief Minister has been backed by 48 members of the Provincial Assembly, representing various political factions. Among these are 29 members from the CPN-UML, 10 from the Maoist Center, 4 from the Nagarik Unmukti Party, 3 from the Janata Samajbadi Party, 1 from the CPN-Unified Socialist, and 1 independent legislator.

Reports indicate that Mahara has been diligently preparing to establish a Cabinet upon assuming office. It is expected that his Cabinet will reflect a collaborative effort, with representation likely from coalition partners.

This appointment underscores a significant shift in the political landscape of Lumbini Province and highlights Mahara’s ability to garner support from diverse political factions. As he assumes the responsibilities of Chief Minister, all eyes will be on Mahara’s leadership and the direction he charts for the province.
