The search for Lokendra Shahi, 30, who went missing after jumping into the Karnali River in Chisapani, has been suspended for the day. Shahi and 16 other youths jumped from the Karnali bridge on Monday during Holi celebrations. While 16 individuals made it to safety, Shahi remains missing.
Nepal Police, armed police divers, and locals conducted an extensive search for Shahi throughout Tuesday but were unsuccessful. Chief Police Inspector Hariram Dangi of the Chisapani District Police Office confirmed that the search has been postponed until Wednesday morning.
According to the Chisapani area police office, the group of youths who jumped were initially warned not to go near the river. The office reports the individuals claimed they were going to take a group photo.
Six of the individuals involved in the incident have been detained by the police for questioning.
