Kathmandu has been brought to a standstill due to severe waterlogging caused by incessant rain. Key areas including Maitighar, Lainchaur, Putlisadak, Swayambhu, Koteshwar, and Kesarmahal are submerged, causing immense inconvenience to pedestrians and motorists.
The situation is particularly dire in Banasthali, where flooding has submerged a toll plaza. Swayambhu’s historic landmarks are also inundated, while the Supreme Court and the Forest Office complex have not been spared.
The inadequate drainage system in the capital has exacerbated the problem.
Godavari in Lalitpur has recorded the highest rainfall in the Kathmandu Valley, with 80.2 mm of precipitation in just six hours. Other areas like Lele, Dhap Dam, Kapan, Sundarijal, Budhanilkanth, and Naikap have also received significant rainfall.
The Bagmati River has overflowed, and flood warnings have been issued for the Hanumante, Khodku, and Bagmati rivers. People are advised to stay away from riverbanks.
Heavy rains have also affected other parts of Nepal, with landslides blocking the Kanti Lokpath and Beni-Jomsom roads.
