Kailash Sirohiya, Chairman of Kantipur Media Group (KMG), has been released on a general date, nine days after his arrest for alleged citizenship fraud.
DSP Ranjan Awa of the District Police Office in Dhanusha confirmed that Sirohiya was released on the condition that he would appear before the police when summoned on Wednesday.
Sirohiya, who was detained in connection with a citizenship case, was transported to Kathmandu by helicopter on Tuesday.
Last Friday, Sirohiya was admitted to Kavya Hospital in Janakpur due to health issues. Following his doctor’s recommendation, he was airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment, according to DSP Awa.
Doctors have indicated that Sirohiya suffers from heart problems and high blood pressure. He has been referred to Medicity Hospital in Kathmandu for advanced medical care.
Sirohiya was arrested on May 21 by police at the KMG office in Kathmandu, following a complaint of citizenship offense filed on April 28 by Indrajit Prasad Mahato, a member of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
On Monday, the Dhanusha District Court extended the investigation period for the third time, granting an additional three days.
