The Koshi state government has introduced a new Agricultural Price Information System designed to empower farmers with knowledge about the value of their produce. Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Ramkumar Khatri officially launched the system on Wednesday.
The Ministry believes this system will streamline the flow of information regarding agricultural prices in the Koshi province, benefitting farmers, traders, and consumers alike. Farmers will have a better understanding of market rates, reducing the likelihood of underselling their produce due to a lack of knowledge.
The system will also allow farmers and traders to compare prices across different markets, enabling them to make more informed decisions about where to sell. Currently, the system covers wholesale and retail prices from three major agricultural markets in Koshi province: Birtamod, Dharan, and Inaruwa.
Biratnagar’s agricultural market is not yet included in the system. Senior Agricultural Development Officer Pashupati Pokharel explained that this is due to the absence of an official procedure for collecting commodity prices in Biratnagar.
