Newly appointed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to take the oath of office and secrecy today.

According to the President’s Office, the ceremony is scheduled for 11:00 AM this morning.

President Ramchandra Poudel appointed Oli as Prime Minister at around 5:00 PM on Sunday, July 14, following the deadline for submission of claims to the position.

Oli’s appointment was made by President Poudel under Article 76(2) of the Constitution.

On July 12, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairman of the Maoist Center, was relieved of his post as Prime Minister by Prachanda after failing to secure a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives. President Poudel then allowed two days for the submission of claims to the Prime Ministership. UML President Oli submitted his claim, asserting the support of his party’s parliamentarians, including members of the Nepali Congress.

Following his appointment, Oli has begun preparations for forming the Council of Ministers. Leaders have indicated that the cabinet will be expanded soon once the ministers are selected.
