A landslide triggered by heavy rain has caused significant damage to the residential area of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality in Phungling, Taplejung district. The incident occurred around 2 AM on July 19.
The landslide swept away a house adjacent to the rural municipality building, resulting in complete damage to Subas Limbu’s house, a nearby hotel, and part of the government office itself. Fortunately, no human casualties were reported as residents were able to evacuate to safety in time.
The landslide also caused damage to infrastructure, with electricity poles knocked down and livestock swept away. The local police station has reported increased water levels in the nearby Tamor River, raising concerns about further landslides and floods.
Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage and working to provide relief to the affected residents.
