Heavy rains since Tuesday have triggered landslides in Kaski district, tragically resulting in the deaths of two young children.
The first incident occurred around 2:50 am in Madi rural municipality. A landslide struck the home of 70-year-old Lalmaya Banjari, who was sleeping with her 13-year-old granddaughter, Ayushma Ranabhat. While Ms. Banjari was fortunately rescued unharmed, Ayushma did not survive.
A separate landslide hit Pokhara-27 Arupata, affecting the residence of 31-year-old Hari Sunar. Sadly, his 3-year-old son, Anmol, lost his life in the disaster. Mr. Sunar’s wife, Ritu Sunar (27), sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at Gandaki Medical College.
“The situation is critical,” reported Basanta Kumar Sharma, Deputy Superintendent of Police for Kaski. “Thankfully, Mr. Sunar and his 9-year-old daughter, Anjali Sunar, were rescued safely. However, the house sustained significant damage.”
