Landslides in Kaski Kills Nine, 7 from same Family

Incessant rain has triggered deadly landslides in Kaski, Nepal, resulting in the deaths of nine people and leaving two others missing.

The most devastating incident occurred in Pokhara Metropolitan Ward No. 12, Puranchaur, where a landslide struck a house, tragically burying and killing seven members of the same family. The victims included 47-year-old Kul Bahadur Pariyar, his wife Mankumari (43), their mother Lakshima (85), their daughters Prashana (15) and Prabha (20), their son-in-law Asmit Pariyar (25), and a family friend, Radhika Pariyar, who reportedly died while attempting to help.

Kaski Police Spokesperson and DSP Basant Kumar Sharma confirmed the incident, stating that the entire family, along with their son-in-law, were inside the house when the landslide occurred.

Another landslide in Chainpur, Pokhara-32, claimed the lives of 18-year-old Anita Ojha and 9-year-old Pratik Subedi when their house was destroyed. Sadly, 11-year-old Anuska Ojha, another resident of the house, is missing.

A separate landslide in Madi rural municipality ward number 11 has left 80-year-old Maitikumari Gurung missing. Police report that Om Bahadur Gurung, who was also caught in the landslide, was fortunately rescued safely.

The bodies of the confirmed deceased have been transferred to the Pokhara Institute of Health Sciences for post-mortem examinations.

Rescue efforts are ongoing to locate the missing individuals.
