A 51-year-old Latvian national, Ivors Walters, has been apprehended at Tribhuvan International Airport for smuggling six kilograms of cocaine. The contraband was concealed within a toy and discovered during a routine luggage check.
The arrest took place on Wednesday morning as Walters arrived from Doha on a Qatar Airways flight. The estimated black market value of the seized cocaine is a staggering 2 Crore 8 Lakh Nepali rupees.
The Narcotics Control Bureau, which led the operation, suspects that the drugs were destined for India. The bureau has initiated a thorough investigation into the case, including the possibility of organized crime involvement.
This incident marks the latest in a series of drug-related arrests at the airport, with previous cases involving individuals from Brazil, African countries, and Malaysia. The bureau has expressed concerns about Nepal being used as a transit point for international drug trafficking.
