Tragedy struck Kailali on Wednesday morning as lightning claimed the lives of two individuals and injured five others.
According to Kailali District Police Office Spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kabindrasingh Bohora, 27-year-old Shalim Chaudhary and 31-year-old Jairam Dagaura lost their lives to lightning strikes.
Chaudhary, a resident of Dhangadhi sub-metropolitan city, was critically injured while working in a field near his home. Despite treatment at Seti Provincial Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
Dagaura, a resident of Joshipur rural municipality, was also struck by lightning while working in the field. Unfortunately, he died during treatment at a local health facility.
The incident did not stop there. Five others were also injured by lightning strikes. Three young girls, aged 9, 7, and 10, were struck while on their way to school in Ghodaghodi Municipality. The severity of their injuries necessitated referral to Kohalpur for further treatment.
The remaining two injured individuals, one each from Tikapur Municipality and Janaki Rural Municipality, are receiving treatment at Tikapur Hospital.
This event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of lightning strikes. It’s crucial to stay informed about weather conditions and seek shelter during thunderstorms.
