Lumbini Province Chief Minister Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary has resigned from his position. Chaudhary was appointed in April of last year with support from eight political parties and an independent MP.
His resignation comes after the CPN-Maoist Center withdrew its support earlier this month, triggered by shifting power coalitions at the national level. Chaudhary sought a vote of confidence in a provincial assembly meeting on Thursday but failed to secure a majority.
In his resignation address, Chaudhary pledged to offer support and constructive criticism to the new government, focusing on development within the province.
The Maoist Center, positioned to lead the new Lumbini government, is in discussions to form a coalition. Their party leader, Jokh Bahadur Mahara, is expected to take the oath of office tomorrow. Mahara previously served as Finance Minister under CPN-UML Chief Minister Lila Giri.
Sources indicate that the new coalition has reached out to smaller parties and a written memorandum of understanding between the CPN-UML, Maoist Center, Janata Samajwadi Party, and United Socialist Party is expected to be signed on Thursday.
