Newly-appointed Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Jokh Bahadur Mahara, will face a vote of confidence today. Speaker Tularam Gharti Magar has scheduled a meeting of the Lumbini Provincial Assembly for 1 pm to determine Mahara’s support.
Mahara was appointed as Chief Minister by State Chief Amik Sherchan and sworn in immediately. To secure a majority, Mahara needs the support of 44 out of the 87-member assembly. He was appointed with the backing of 59 lawmakers, including those from UML, Maoist Center, Nagarik Unmukti Party, Janata Samajwadi Party, Unified Socialist Party, and an independent representative.
Mahara has already appointed three ministers to his cabinet, representing CPN-UML, Maoist Center, and Janata Samajwadi Party.
