Kathmandu – In the aftermath of the stampede during the Maghe Sankranti celebration at Tundikhel on Monday, encouraging news emerges as 15 out of the 16 injured individuals have been discharged from Bir Hospital after receiving necessary medical treatment.
Kumod Dungel, the spokesperson for the Kathmandu District Police Office, provided an update stating that as of now, one person remains under medical care at the hospital.
The tragic incident unfolded during the Maghi and Maghe Sankranti programs organized separately by the Tharu and Magar communities. The gathering at Tundikhel meant to commemorate these cultural events, resulted in chaos and panic, leading to a stampede and injuries to 16 individuals.
The injured victims have been identified as Trisana Magar (12), Anjana Tamang (12), Rejina Ghale (19), Nikita Magar (16), Rekha Chaudhary (30), Anisha KC (16), Kalpana Chaudhary (25), Mandira Basnet (22), Mina Thapa (40), Rija Magar (19), and Police personnel Prthivi Budamagar, Nisha Rana Thapa (25), Nirmala Shrestha (22), Reshmi Nepal (27), Yunika Baral (11), and Karishma Magar (14).
The discharged individuals have received medical attention and are now on the path to recovery from the unfortunate incident. However, the hospital continues to provide care and treatment to one individual who sustained injuries during the stampede.
Authorities are investigating to determine the factors that contributed to the stampede, with an emphasis on preventing such incidents in the future. The community remains in solidarity as they reflect on the incident and express hopes for the recovery of the remaining individual undergoing treatment.
