Kathmandu, Nepal – In a significant development, Krishna Maharjan, the president of Divya Shanti Savings and Credit Cooperative Society in Kathmandu, has been apprehended after absconding with approximately four crore rupees from unsuspecting savers.

Maharjan, who had repeatedly failed to return savings to cooperative members despite several visits to the organization’s Naradevi office, went to extreme lengths by shutting down the office and eluding authorities. However, his run came to an end when he was arrested on the 23rd of Falgun in Chitwan. Subsequently, he was transported to Kathmandu, where legal proceedings against him have been initiated. Sources reveal that Maharjan, currently in the custody of the Public Service Police, is slated to appear in court today.

The cooperative, which was managed by Krishna Maharjan’s family and relatives, had his wife Anjala serving as the manager. Additionally, the vice president Ashok Maharjan, treasurer Sunil Maharjan, secretary Rekha Maharjan, and members Siru Shrestha and Divyaswari Maharjan were implicated in the fraudulent activities.

Over 40 aggrieved savers of the cooperative have complained to the police, accusing the manager of deceitful practices. Reports suggest that an alarming sum of over 33.5 million rupees has been embezzled from the savings of Divya Shanti Cooperative members.
