Heavy rains caused flooding in the Mai Khola River, inundating fields and destroying crops in the Jhapa district, of Nepal.
According to Krishna Kumar Chand, spokesperson for the Jhapa District Police Office, the floodwaters ravaged around 50 bighas of corn near the Sugabathan Toll in Jhapa Rural Municipality Ward 2.
In a separate incident last night, a lightning strike hit a two-bigha cornfield belonging to Dhan Prasad Paudel in Jhapa Ward 3 (Gourigaon). The Jhapa District Police Office reported that firefighters from Shivasatakshi Municipality, Kamal Rural Municipality, and residents were able to extinguish the flames. The fire caused an estimated loss of Rs 20,000.
