POKHARA, Nepal – A massive wildfire erupted in the Kahun Danda area of Pokhara on the evening of March 19th, causing widespread alarm and prompting a significant response from local authorities. The fire, which began around 7 pm, burned through the night, challenging firefighters and threatening nearby settlements.

Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel were immediately deployed to the scene, working to contain the blaze. Information Officer at the District Police Office, Kaski, Police Inspector Tilak Manandhar, emphasized the difficulty of the task: “It is not easy to control the fire.”

Particular concern was raised about the proximity of the fire to the Manipal Teaching Hospital. In response, additional security personnel and fire brigades were dispatched to protect the hospital.

Dhanraj Acharya, Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City, confirmed the mobilization of two fire engines and indicated that support from the Pokhara International Airport may be requested. “Efforts are being made to control the fire,” he stated.
