The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against 19 individuals at the Special Court. The charges stem from the illegal cutting of trees in Kapilvastu district, allegedly causing a financial loss of Rs. 29,12,000 to the government.
Among the accused are a Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker, seven forest officers, and members of the Gautam Buddha Collaborative Forest Management Committee. Former District Forest Officer Krishna Dutt Bhatta, Divisional Forest Officer Durga Bahadur Karki, and others are accused of exceeding permitted logging limits.
The CIAA’s investigation also implicates furniture businesses in the illicit scheme.
