Sudurpaschim Province Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah has assigned ministerial portfolios to two members of the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP). Laxman Kishor Chaudhary will now serve as Minister for Social Development, and Khushiram Dagaura Tharu will assume the role of Minister for Industry, Tourism, Forests, and Environment.
The appointments come as the province prepares for a vote of confidence in the Provincial Assembly. The NUP’s decision to continue supporting the current Nepali Congress-led government is a significant development.
Damodar Pandit, the NUP’s spokesperson, confirmed that the party’s stance on both federal and state governments was decided during a meeting in Tikapur on Wednesday. This follows their earlier support for Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ in the federal parliament.
Ghanashyam Chaudhary, NUP Parliamentary Party Leader and Minister for Economic Affairs reaffirmed the party’s support for the Shah-led government in Sudurpaschim Province.
