The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Tanahu Distribution Center has successfully recovered over Rs. 2.5 crore in outstanding electricity bills by disconnecting power lines.
The center cut off electricity supply to 1,436 customers who had failed to pay their bills, resulting in Rs. 2.68 crore in arrears. Currently, 1,273 customers have settled their accounts, representing a recovery rate of 76.57%.
In the previous fiscal year, 2079/80, the center collected Rs. 1.84 crore in arrears from 918 customers whose lines were disconnected. During this period, 786 customers were reconnected after paying their outstanding bills.
The center reported electricity sales worth Rs. 53.94 crore in the fiscal year 2080/81. However, the total amount collected during this period was Rs. 53.94 crore, indicating a shortfall of Rs. 10.26 crore. Despite aiming to reduce electricity leakage by 7.92%, the center achieved a 12.79% reduction.
To combat electricity theft and improve efficiency, the NEA Tanahu Distribution Center has implemented measures such as replacing faulty meters, upgrading cables, and adding transformer load centers. These efforts have contributed to the significant increase in revenue collection.
