GULMI, NEPAL – A Nepal Airlines Twin Otter aircraft bound for Kathmandu was forced to return to Resunga Airport in Gulmi on Wednesday due to deteriorating weather conditions. The flight, which had successfully departed Resunga earlier in the day, was unable to continue its journey safely.

Sumanjang Thapa, Liaison Officer for Nepal Airlines Resunga, confirmed the incident and explained that a technical inspection of the aircraft is required before it can resume flight. Unfortunately, there is no engineer available in Gulmi, and one must be dispatched from Kathmandu. Mr. Thapa expects the flight to be delayed until the engineer arrives and grants clearance.

Resunga Airport typically sees three flights per week, driven by high passenger demand and an initiative by the Resunga municipality. Flights operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. It’s expected that the grounded aircraft will only be able to depart on the regularly scheduled Friday flight.

Impact on Tourism

The recent inclusion of Gulmi as an air travel destination has positively impacted the district’s tourism industry. International tourists have begun visiting popular locations such as the Resunga historical and religious site, the mysterious caves of Dhurkot, Timure Lake in Chandrakot, and the Malika Peace Park. Currently, tourists from France, Belgium, and Spain are exploring Gulmi’s attractions.
