Nepal Local By-Election: 61% Voter Turnout by 4 PM today

In the ongoing by-elections for 41 local level positions, voter turnout has reached 61%. According to Election Commission spokesperson Nita Pokharel Aryal, approximately 61% of the voting was completed by 4 PM today.

“By 4 PM, around 61% of voting has been completed,” Aryal told Media. “Voting has been peaceful across all areas.”

She also mentioned that vote counting will begin immediately after the polling ends. Voting, which started at 7 AM, will continue until 5 PM.

The by-elections are being held for 41 positions, including one mayor, one deputy mayor, two rural municipality chairs, four deputy chairs, and 33 ward chairs.

A total of 20 political parties and 376 independent candidates are competing in the elections.

Previously, Nepali Congress candidates Tekraj Bhattarai and Tikakumari Chaudhary (Bhool) were elected unopposed as district coordination committee heads in Okhaldhunga and Kailali, respectively. Similarly, Jagat Gharti from the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre) was elected unopposed as the ward chair of Ward No. 2 in the Putha UttarGanga Rural Municipality in Rukum (Eastern).
