Nepal Deploys High Security Emir of Qatar

During his two-day visit to Nepal, The Nepali Army will provide high-level security for King Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar. In line with the Special Person Protection Procedure, the Qatari leader will receive “A category” security, a level previously accorded to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Security Detail and Coordination

The Nepali Army’s specialized security directorate will handle close protection. Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and the National Investigation Department will manage external security. The King’s motorcade will include police escort vehicles, outriders, ambulances, and backup support. Additionally, army snipers and bomb disposal teams will be deployed.

Senior police officials (AIG Deepak Thapa and DIG Purushottam Thapa) are assigned to coordinate security efforts, and the National Research Department will provide intelligence gathering. The Qatari Embassy will also deploy its security team, working with Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Security Planning and Challenges

The Nepali Army anticipates potential security challenges from criminal groups, terrorist organizations, and extremist factions. An integrated security coordination committee, led by Rathi Ashokraj Sigdel, has been formed to address these concerns proactively.

Arrival and Itinerary

Security forces are already deployed in preparation for the King of Qatar’s arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport on Tuesday evening. He will be welcomed by President Ram Chandra Paudel and receive a 21-gun salute. The Qatari delegation will reside at the Solti Hotel. Scheduled meetings include one with President Paudel on Tuesday and another with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda on Wednesday. The delegation will depart Nepal on Wednesday afternoon.
