The Nepal-India Jamunaha border crossing at Khajura-Banke has been temporarily closed for three days, starting from 10:00 PM on Friday, May 10th. This closure is due to the Lok Sabha elections taking place in the Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh, India, on May 13th.

Assistant Chief District Officer Jora Singh Majhi explained that the decision was made to mitigate potential security risks associated with the open border during the election period. However, emergency services, including ambulances, will not be affected by the closure, and coordination between security personnel from both countries will continue.

In addition to the border closure, the sale and consumption of alcohol have been banned in the border areas of both countries as a precautionary measure. Joint patrols by security personnel from Nepal and India have also been increased in the Dasgaja area in preparation for the elections.
