The first phase of the ambitious Asian Highway project, designed to connect 32 Asian countries, has commenced in Nepal. Tree felling has begun in the western section, spanning from Kamal Rural Municipality in Jhapa to Itahari.
A Kathmandu-based company is spearheading construction in the western sector. This work includes the transformation of a 120-kilometer stretch of the East-West highway in Jhapa, Morang, and Sunsari into a four-lane road, funded by the Asian Development Bank.
“Approximately 6,737 trees will be removed as part of this three-year project,” confirmed company representative Hariprasad Parajuli. The project, budgeted at Rs 28.17 billion, will also see the construction of 71 new bridges along the highway.
