Nepal has also lost the opportunity to directly play in the 2026 T20 World Cup after being eliminated from the group stage in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The team that reached the Super-8 in the ongoing World Cup in America and the West Indies had the opportunity to play directly in the 2026 T20 World Cup. Nepal, which is in Group D, lost to South Africa by 1 run on Saturday, and the possibility of Super-8 ended.

India and Sri Lanka have directly reached the World Cup when they were the hosts. Apart from India, the other 7 teams that will reach the Super-8 will make it to the 2026 World Cup. Apart from the Super 8, the top three teams in the ICC rankings will also directly qualify for the World Cup.

Nepal is ranked 18th in ICC’s T20I rankings. As there is no possibility of playing in the World Cup directly from the rankings, Nepal will play in the Asia qualifiers.

So far, 7 teams have decided to play T20 World Cup 2026 directly. India and Sri Lanka have reached directly when they are hosts. After that, America, Afghanistan, Australia, West Indies, and South Africa who reached the Super 8 have also been directly selected. Now two teams from England, Netherlands, Bangladesh, and Scotland will directly reach the World Cup.

In the ICC T20I ranking, India is on top, Australia is second, West Indies is third, England is fourth, South Africa is fifth, New Zealand is sixth, Pakistan is seventh, Sri Lanka is eighth, Bangladesh is ninth, Afghanistan is tenth, Ireland is 11th and Scotland is 12th. Even if they do not reach the Super 8, New Zealand and Pakistan are almost certain to reach the T20 World Cup based on their ranking.

The US is the only associate team to qualify directly for the 2026 T20 World Cup so far. In Group A, with 5 points in 4 games, they made it to the Super 8 and reached the 2026 World Cup.

From Group A, India and America have reached the Super-8. Australia has reached Group B. England and Scotland are in the race. England is in third place with 3 points from 3 games. England will play Namibia in the final match tonight. On the other hand, Scotland is in second place with 5 points from 3 matches. Scotland will play against Australia tomorrow.

If Scotland wins, they will play Super 8 behind England. When Australia wins and England defeats Namibia in the last match, it looks like they will reach the Super 8 with Netrunrate. If they do not reach the Super 8, England will play the World Cup based on the ranking.

Bangladesh is second in Group D with 4 points from 3 matches. Bangladesh will play against Nepal on Sunday. Netherlands is in third place with 2 points from 3 matches. The Netherlands will play against Sri Lanka on Monday. If Bangladesh fails to reach the Super 8, it is more likely that they will play Asia qualifiers with Nepal.
