KATHMANDU, NEPAL – Nepal has kicked off their ACC Premier Cup 2024 campaign with a hard-fought 5-wicket victory over Malaysia. Chasing a target of 144 runs, Nepal reached the finish line in 19.2 overs, spurred on by late-inning heroics from Gulshan Jha (19 runs off 7 balls) and Sundeep Jora (12 not out).
Captain Rohit Paudel contributed a steady 28 runs, while openers Aasif Sheikh (32) and Kushal Bhurtel (24) provided a solid start for Nepal. Virandeep Singh led the way for Malaysia’s bowling attack, claiming 3 wickets.
Earlier, Malaysia opted to bat first and posted a score of 143/3 in their 20 overs. Captain Virandeep Singh anchored the innings with an unbeaten 68, with Dipendra Singh Airee taking 2 wickets for Nepal.
Nepal’s ACC Premier Cup journey continues on Saturday with a match against Qatar. The tournament’s eventual winner will earn a coveted spot in the Asia Cup.
