Nepal’s government is planning a grand celebration for this year’s Everest Day, with the main program to be held at the Everest Base Camp in the presence of the Prime Minister. This announcement was made by Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Minister Hitraj Tamang.
Minister Tamang chaired a meeting of the Everest Organizing Committee last week, where the decision for the base camp celebration was reached. Everest Day, commemorating the first successful ascent of Mount Everest falls on May 29th.
“Traditionally, Everest Day celebrations have been difficult to coordinate with the Prime Minister’s schedule due to Republic Day and budget presentations falling on May 28th,” the Minister explained. “However, this year’s favorable calendar alignment makes the Prime Minister’s attendance possible.”
