The Nepalese government is set to formally request China’s assistance in the ongoing search for two missing buses and their passengers, who were swept away by a landslide in Simaltal, Chitwan, on July 12th.
Home Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal informed the State Order Committee of the Parliament about the decision. Of the estimated 65 passengers on board the two buses, only three survived, while 24 bodies have been recovered thus far. The fate of 38 people remains unknown.
An earlier search operation conducted by an Indian team was hampered by the loss of crucial equipment, including a 19kg magnet and a life buoy tube, which were swept away by the Trishuli River.
The Nepalese government hopes that China’s expertise and resources can aid in the recovery efforts and provide closure for the families of the missing.
