Lamjung, Nepal – A somber atmosphere envelops Dudhpokhari-1 as the news of the tragic demise of 32-year-old Sajan Gurung, who had enlisted in the Russian army for deployment in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, reaches his grieving family.
Dudhpokhari-1 Ward Chairman, Durgaman Gurung, confirmed the heartbreaking news of Sajan Gurung’s death in the war-torn region. The family received the devastating update just five days ago, as shared by Chairman Gurung during a press conference held in Lamjung.
Chairman Durgaman Gurung revealed that Sajan’s friends in Russia were the bearers of the unfortunate news. They initially conveyed the information to Sajan’s brother, Kumar Gurung, who subsequently informed the family in Nepal. Kumar was in Germany at the time, relaying the heartbreaking news from afar.
The final rites for Sajan Gurung were conducted on January 14, bringing closure to the family as they bid farewell to their beloved son, husband, and father.
Before joining the Russian army, Sajan Gurung had served as the Young Communist League (YCL) Chairman of Dudhpokhari rural municipality in Nepal. He departed for Russia three months prior, seeking employment opportunities within the Russian military.
Sajan is survived by his grief-stricken father, mother, wife, and a young son. The loss of a community leader and a dedicated individual has left a void in Dudhpokhari, and condolences pour in from across the region.
