Nepal’s Tourism Pioneer, Basanta Mishra dies aged 71

Prominent Nepali tourism businessman Basanta Mishra passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 71. Mishra, who was battling dengue, was receiving treatment at Norvic Hospital in Thapathali. His body has been taken to his residence in Kupandol, and the funeral procession will proceed to Aryaghat at 1 PM.

Mishra was a leading figure in Nepal’s tourism industry, having contributed significantly to its growth and development since the 1970s. As the chairman of the Temple Tiger Group of Companies, he played a pivotal role in promoting Nepal as an international tourism destination.

One of the founders of the Nepal Tourism Board, Mishra led numerous domestic and international initiatives to boost tourism in Nepal. His most notable contribution was the “Nepal Tourism Year” campaign, which successfully attracted tourists from around the world. By promoting diverse tourism activities, including Himalayan trekking, adventure sports, and cultural experiences, Mishra helped establish Nepal as a must-visit destination.

Mishra’s career was recognized with numerous national and international awards, honoring his dedication to the tourism industry. He was a strong advocate for sustainable tourism, emphasizing the importance of environmental preservation and community upliftment.
