The Netherlands have unveiled their 15-player squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, prioritizing young talent over experience. Notable omissions include veteran all-rounder Roelof van der Merwe and key batter Colin Ackermann, replaced by promising left-arm spinner Tim Pringle and hard-hitting opener Michael Levitt.
Levitt recently impressed with a blistering century against Namibia during a T20I tri-series in Nepal, smashing 11 fours and 10 sixes in a rapid 135 runs from just 62 balls.
Scott Edwards will once again captain the Dutch side, with star all-rounder Bas de Leede expected to play a crucial role in the team’s campaign. The Netherlands will face South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal in the group stages.
Their first match is scheduled for June 4th against Nepal at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. The team aims to build upon their impressive performance in the last T20 World Cup, where they secured memorable victories against South Africa and Ireland in the Super 12 stage.
Head coach Ryan Cook expressed confidence in the well-balanced team, stating, “All of the players have been training well… We have managed to perform admirably in the last two World Cups we have participated in and will be determined to rise to the challenges we face ahead to reach the next round of the tournament.”
