New variant of Deadpool would endanger the MCU

The year 2024 has been one of the most relevant if we talk about the world of Marvel, and Deadpool returned after so many years of absence to finally be part of the UCM, this in a collaboration with none other than Wolverine, a character who recovered with Disney’s purchase of FOX. In fact, the last appearance of the anti-hero was not in said film, but in a series that was launched this month on streaming platforms.

A new variant of the character has recently been introduced in the final episode of the third season of What If…?, which could radically change the rules of the multiverse in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although his appearance was brief, this villain armed to the teeth has generated theories and alarm among fans, given his resemblance to the comic book version Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe.

In this story by Cullen Bunn and Dalibor Talajic, the character takes his chaotic nature to the extreme, eliminating not only the most iconic heroes like Spider-Man, Wolverine and the Fantastic Four, but also cosmic beings like Thanos, Silver Surfer and even Uatu the Watcher. The series, known for its tone, leads the mercenary to break the fourth wall in extreme ways, even going so far as to murder the creators of the product themselves.

The inclusion of this variant in What If…? has sparked speculation about its possible impact on future MCU productions. With the long-awaited Avengers: Secret Wars in development, some suggest that Disney could be laying the groundwork to explore this Deadpool on screen. And perhaps this is the cause of some type of reboot for the films, which is only theoretical.

Ryan Reynolds, who plays the character, has previously expressed that he shouldn’t be fully integrated with the Avengers, leaving room for more independent and controversial explorations. Meanwhile, this new variant puts fans on alert and raises expectations about the future of the multiverse, as Marvel continues to expand the narrative possibilities in its cinematic universe.

Remember that the animated series can be seen on Disney+.
