Nine people have been arrested for making offensive chants at the Premier League match between Liverpool and Manchester City this weekend.
Merseyside Police confirmed that the detainees are between 19 and 57 years old and that they were arrested at the Anfield stadium this Sunday.
Offensive chants against tragedies are a “public offense” following the 1991 law, approved after, on April 15, 1989, 97 Liverpool fans were crushed to death by the avalanche that occurred due to excess capacity at the stadium. Hillsborough, during a Cup semi-final between the ‘Reds’ and Nottingham Forest.
Last Sunday, Liverpool won 2-0 against Manchester City and already has an 11-point advantage in the standings over Pep Guardiola’s team.
