Boat Capsizes in Bajura Lake

Tragedy struck on Sunday at Chhededaha Lake in Bajura when a boat overturned, resulting in the death of 32-year-old Birendra Rawat of Lamgaon, Khaptad Chhededaha Rural Municipality. Six other passengers on the boat managed to swim to safety.

Security personnel recovered Rawat’s body from the lake. According to District Police Office Bajura’s DSP Kabindra Bohora, the group was celebrating the Holi festival when they took out a dilapidated boat that had been unused for a year.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the primary cause of the accident was negligence,” said DSP Bohora. “The passengers were not wearing life jackets, and the boat was unsafe.”

Police noted the lake’s depth exceeds 12 feet. The deceased’s body has been transported to Martadi for a post-mortem examination.
