Jhapa, Nepal: A food poisoning outbreak has occurred in Kharbandi village, Arjundhara municipality-9 after residents consumed prasad (offerings) from a puja ceremony.
The incident took place on Wednesday at Rita Niraula’s home. Over 60 people participated in the puja and subsequently became ill. Symptoms reported include vomiting, diarrhea, and fever.
According to residents, the food poisoning is believed to be caused by contaminated prasad, specifically pickled vegetables and roti. The outbreak has affected both those who ate at the puja site and those who consumed prasad brought home.
Arjundhara municipality-9 ward chairman Bhishma Mishra confirmed that approximately 55-60 people have fallen ill, including villagers and visiting relatives. Patients are currently receiving treatment at local clinics.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the food poisoning and taking necessary measures to prevent further outbreaks.
