Palesha Goverdhan has made history as the first Nepalese para-athlete to directly qualify for the Paralympic Games. She secured her place at the Paris Paralympics, scheduled for August 2024, by winning a gold medal in the women’s 57 kg K44 taekwondo competition at the Asian Paralympic selection event held in China.
Goverdhan’s path to victory included a decisive win over Iran’s Leila Mirzae in the final match. This triumph follows her previous outstanding performances, including two wins at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics and a historic bronze medal at the 4th Asian Para Games.
