Birtamode, Jhapa witnessed a double dose of tragedy on Tuesday morning. A fatal pedestrian accident and a separate bus collision left one dead and multiple injured.
Pedestrian Loses Life
70-year-old Tanka Maya Subedi, resident of Morang Ratuwamai Municipality-8, was struck by a vehicle (Me 1 Ja 6613) while crossing the road near Birtamod Municipality-5 Onestop Mall at 8:40 am. The impact left her critically injured. Despite being rushed to B&C Hospital in Birtamode for treatment, Subedi succumbed to her injuries by 9:00 am.
Bus Collision on East-West Highway
Further east, on the East-West Highway located in Kamal Rural Municipality-4, a head-on collision occurred between a tipper bus (Ba 3 Kha 2166) traveling eastbound and a passenger bus (Ko 1 Kha 5087) heading in the opposite direction. The incident resulted in injuries to 21 passengers.
Serious Injuries Reported
Authorities have classified the injuries of 3 passengers as critical. All injured individuals are receiving treatment at hospitals in Damak, Birtamode, and Biratnagar. The District Traffic Police Office is currently investigating both accidents.
